Editorial resource for U.S. employers and HR teams
Who writes this salary budgeting resource
Everee Salary & Budgeting Guide is an editorial resource for U.S. employers and HR teams working on payroll budgets and compensation cycles. We publish explanations, comparisons, and planning frameworks.
The gap we work in
What this site is for
The site exists because payroll budgeting material tends to be either vendor marketing or accounting textbook. Neither helps an HR lead who needs to build a defensible headcount budget by Friday. We aim for the practical middle: how the math works, what the tools do, and where the common mistakes happen.
That means pages built around the work, not the pitch. A guide to salary bands explains which inputs you need before you can set one. A comparison walks through the feature differences that change how much time a cycle takes. Nothing here assumes you already know the terminology, and nothing here assumes you have an analyst on staff.
What you will find here
- Budget worksheets and calculators for headcount and loaded-cost planning
- Platform comparisons written from published documentation, not sales decks
- Plain-language guides to salary bands, merit cycles, and payroll tax basics
How we research compensation and payroll topics
We work from publicly available product documentation, vendor feature pages, and published software roundups. When we describe a platform's features, we stay within what that source states. When we describe a calculation, we show the components. We do not publish rate quotes, and we do not present estimates as guarantees.
Research starts with the question an HR team actually asked, then moves outward: what the calculation requires as inputs, which source documents it, and where the same number can come out differently depending on state rules or plan design. If we cannot source a claim, it does not ship.
Where the material comes from
- Public product documentation and feature pages
- Published category roundups that name current tools
- State and federal payroll guidance, cited where it applies
- Reader questions and corrections, answered and logged
The platforms we cover and why
Our comparisons currently include the platforms below. They appear because they are named in current compensation and payroll roundups across the category, not because of any commercial relationship. Coverage is not an endorsement, and no vendor sees a page before it publishes.
If a platform changes its published feature set, we update the page rather than leave a stale claim standing. If you spot a description that no longer matches the source, tell us and we will check it against the documentation.
Every figure gets a source
Editorial standards
No invented numbers
We do not invent statistics, testimonials, or case results. We do not publish before-and-after claims. If a figure cannot be traced to a source, it does not appear on the page.
Context over single answers
When a number depends on your state, your plan design, or your participation rate, we say so instead of publishing a single figure that will not apply to you.
Corrections are welcome
If something here is wrong or out of date, send it through the contact page. Corrections are noted when made, and the page is updated rather than quietly replaced.
No payment for coverage
We do not sell software and we do not accept payment for coverage. A platform appears in a comparison because it is named in current category roundups, nothing else.
Who this is written for
Most readers arrive with the same problem in different sizes: payroll has outgrown the spreadsheet but the company is not large enough for an enterprise implementation team. The material is written for that middle, and it is honest about where it stops applying.
If you are outside the middle range, some material will still apply, but the tool recommendations may not. The overlap region above marks where the guidance holds strongest.
What we do not do
We do not provide legal, tax, or accounting advice. For decisions with legal or tax consequences, work with a qualified professional in your state.
We do not file payroll taxes on your behalf, and we do not act as a payroll processor.
We do not negotiate with vendors on your behalf, and we are not a brokerage for software contracts.
We do not publish rate quotes or promise a specific outcome from any tool described here.
How to reach us
Questions, corrections, and topic suggestions go through the contact page. We read everything and reply when a question needs a substantive answer rather than a link. If a page is missing the detail you needed, tell us what you were trying to work out and we will look at whether it belongs in a guide.
